This exhibit is a macabre look inside one of the country's most notorious state mental hospitals
These photos were taken in 2011 over two sessions at the Metropolitan State Hospital, located in the city of Norwalk in Los Angeles County, California. The Metropolitan provides mental health care and treatment to forensic and civilly committed patients in need of a structured and secure environment.
Dilapidated and worn, many of the century-old structures were condemned in the 1980’s. Rumors of ghosts, disturbing psychiatric treatments, and too many minds lost have left scars and too many minds lost have left scars inside these walls.
